Core examination subjects: Irish, English and Mathematics
Optional examination subjects:
ACADEMIC: History, Geography, French, German, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Business Organisation, Accounting, Music.
PRACTICAL: Home Economics, Construction Studies, Engineering, Design and Communication Graphics, Art and Technology.
Core non exam: Religion, Physical Education, Career Guidance, Computing and Sport.

Leaving Certificate Applied Programme (LCAP)

Leaving Certificate Applied is an alternative to the traditional Leaving Certificate. It is a two year programme designed to suit students who do not like academic work or who find it difficult. Students who wish to pursue courses in IT Colleges can do so by taking a further year in a Post-Leaving Certificate course. The Course does not suit students who wish to go directly to University.

Features of Leaving Certificate Applied:

• each course is designed to last a half year
• a course is examined at the end of that half year and results are carried forward
• courses are built around projects, tasks and activities
• preparation for work and work experience
• the greater part of the marks are given for work done over the period in school

Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP)

The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) is an intervention designed to enhance the vocational dimension of the Leaving Certificate.

Programme Requirements

• LCVP students must take a minimum of five Leaving Certificate subjects at Higher, Ordinary or Foundation Level including Irish.
• Their subjects must be selected from the list of the designated Vocational Subject Groupings.
• They must study the two link modules, namely Preparation for the World of Work and Enterprise Education.
• Students are required to follow a recognised course in a Modern European Language (other than Irish or English).

Students will benefit by:
Taking responsibility for their own learning; working as a member of a team or group; gaining knowledge of the world of work; learning about setting up and running enterprise initiatives.
